Urban Pi

I knew Urban Pi was around for a while because I'd always see it in passing but today I finally got a chance to try it out. Think of this place as the Chipotle for pizzas: made right in front of you with your choice of fresh, organic toppings. Urban Pi also serves sandwiches, salads, pastas, and dessert pies, but why go to a pizza parlor for anything but pizza?

Taste:

For $8 I ordered a half and half Chef's Signature personal pizza with one half Pesto and the other half White Pi. The Pesto was topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, red onions, local ricotta (my favorite) and house made pesto. The White Pi came with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, zucchini, wild organic oregano, organic olive oil, and basil. All pizzas are baked with in house organic flour and  have this deliciously thin and crispy, Neapolitan like crust that's also gooey in the middle. One thing I felt about both pizzas was that I could actually taste every single ingredient without being weighed down by the grease. The pesto was not only rich in color but rich in taste which is why I enjoyed it being drizzled over the pizza rather than spread all over. Both pizzas were basic- and by basic I mean both simple and complex at the same time with flavors of onion, garlic, basil and oregano bursting throughout every bite.

Ambiance:

The decor here is very modern and sleek with a bit of an Italian artsy feel to it. There is plenty of seating both indoors (tables, booths, bar stools) and in the outdoor patio. I am particularly sad to report that there were no mathematical references within the restaurant. Nonetheless, this place is perfect for a casual lunch or small party.

Overall, this place is a keeper in my books. Everything is straight farm to table so the quality speaks for itself. I'm definitely coming back here in the near future and especially to try the fresh corn + creme fraiche + shrimp pizza and the caramelized sugar + sweet ricotta + walnut brittle + nutella dessert pie
