Yesterday's r&r session somehow sparked up my sweet tooth, which was a rare occurrence. Luckily, The Baked Bear, a custom ice cream sandwich shop was just a few doors down. Think creamy ice cream sandwiched in between fresh baked cookies, waffles, or brownies. They even have a gluten free option.
The cookie selections were: funfetti cake, chocolate chip, white chocolate chip macadamia nut, peanut butter, red velvet, and snickerdoodle. The ice cream selections were: vanilla, cookies and cream, chocolate chip cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, strawberry cheesecake, rocky road, butter pecan, coffee and mango sorbet.
We opted for one cookie dough ice cream sandwiched between a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie, and another coffee ice cream sandwiched in between two snickerdoodles. The ice cream was perfectly creamy but the cookies could have been softer and chewier. The brownie was especially rich and decadent, and even though I don't like brownies, I probably could have eaten this one on its own. The plus side was that the portions were huge- practically the size of a meal.
On the whole, it was a simple treat that satisfied my craving for something sweet, but unless I am in or around Pacific Beach hunting for ice cream, this won't be my go-to in the future.
