Happy Thursday, people! If you know me then you should know I'm the type of person that rarely invests in dresses and I almost always opt for jeans instead of skirts and dresses. Luckily, this season is all about layering your dress over jeans or pants. What I LOOOOOVE about this trend is if you aren't getting as much wear as you'd like from your summer dresses, throwing it over regular denim and tees is the coolest way to breathe new life into them.
Here are a few tips to seamlessly accomplish the 'drean' (you see what I did there?!) look:
1. The cut of the dress matters. Proportions are important (especially for my petite girls out there!) for creating a sleek and flawless look when layering. Opt for a dress that's neither too short nor too long. Something with a lot of fluid so as to keep your overall look light and breezy. Something with an asymmetric hem or high slit also works really well for this trend because it allows a good portion of the jeans to be seen. Shop a few of my top picks below:
2. Heels over flats. Fun fact: did you know layering often makes you look shorter than you actually are? It's true. That's why it's important to wear heels with the dress over jeans look to elongate your frame. Pumps are always an obvious choice for completing the look but it's always nice to show some flesh during the warmer months. Summer mules (think lace, mesh or braided) give off major summer vibes. 3. Layer, layer, layer. Playing with different textures and layers completely amps up this trend. In my look here, I layered a chiffon neck-tie blouse under neath the dress to add more depth and some sophistication, but on off duty days I've also worn a plain tee under the dress. Go for something with structure in a way where your entire look remains equally balanced. You could even add a loose, boyfriend blazer to top the entire look off.
